THE DESIGN STORY OF ACRON WATERFRONT RESORT BY BRINDA SOMAYA

The Design Story of Acron Waterfront Resort by Brinda Somaya
September 11, 2015

We had the pleasure of meeting up with Brinda Somaya, a well-known Indian Architect and Urban Conservationist who has worked with various property developers on projects ranging from institutional campuses and the rehabilitation of an earthquake torn Bhuj village, destroyed in 2001 along with many other settlements in Gujarat province, to the restoration of an 18th century Cathedral. She received the Baburao Mhatre Gold medal for lifetime achievement and is one of the best Architects in her field. She spoke with us about her experience designing our second luxury resort in Goa – The Acron Water Front.

“The architect’s role is that of a guardian – theirs is the conscience of the built and the un-built environment.”

Brinda was the perfect choice for us at #Waterfrontgoa, with her signature style that honours the past and serves the present, and is neither self- indulgent nor reverential, but an intelligent meshing of the old and new.

A motely group of buildings were to be converted into a 20,000 sq.ft 5 star Resort within River View at AWR the stringent rules of the Coastal Regulation Zone. Built on the very edge of the river, this resort has an old world flavour of Goa tempered with a contemporary feel. The basic buildings consists of 29 rooms along with a restaurant and spa in addition to the infinity pool that blends into the Baga River. An external ‘Y’ shaped staircase provides access to the upper floors and also connects the adjoining buildings. Every room has a sit-out, while the colours of cobalt blue and ochre unify the spaces and add the original Goan architectural theme. Some rooms have a courtyard and some face the Baga Waterfront. There is a long strip of land alongside the rooms which faces the creek and looks on towards the Arabian Sea.

Baga’s #1 Resort

Special touches have also been added in terms of the Stucco finishes and the lighting fixtures that add a sense of elegance and careful detail to the resort.

Guests who choose to stay in the River View and our best Sea view rooms at Dining #Waterfrontgoa are greeted to early morning views of local fishermen as they set about their daily chores rowing their charming fishing boats along the Baga river occasionally passing by the gorgeous Infinity pool at this 5 star beach resort in Goa.

If you want to experience the beauty of coastal Goa in a luxury setting mixed with the simplicities of the Goan way of life and share in the vision that helped Brinda create Goa’s #1 Luxury Resort, come stay at the Acron Water Front Resort.
